TEAM DESCRIPTION

The UCL Rover Team is a part of the the UCL Mechanical Engineering Department and UCL Racing, is a multidisciplinary student team dedicated to advancing planetary exploration technology. With 27 members from 6 different degree backgrounds, our skill set and rover embodies the ingenuity and adaptability needed for extraterrestrial missions. With a focus on cutting-edge robotics and autonomous systems, we strive to push the boundaries of rover capabilities while preparing the next generation of engineers for careers in space exploration and beyond. UCL Rover was the first UK team to compete in the European Rover Challenge (ERC) in 2018, achieving 16th place out of 65 teams. Our team is made up of 6 subsystems: Mechanical Structures, Robotic Arm, Electrical, Autonomous and Control, Base Station, and Logistics, all working closely together to build an autonomous rover and drone.

We are kindly sponsored by RS components, Autodesk, Relm Insurance, Babcock, and Xometry, providing us with components and material to undertake novel design projects, such as designing and manufacturing airless wheels for our Rover, and with whom we look forward to exploring more innovative engineering solutions in rover design, and giving us opportunities to widen our reach into the space industry, presenting at the Space Comm expo in Excel London, and participating in the government engineering showcase and the Houses of Parliament.
