Team RUDRA – SRM Mars Rover is SRM Institute of Science and Technology’s Mars Rover team, specializing in building Mars rover prototypes for various international competitions since 2013. The team has participated in the University Rover Challenge and the International Rover Challenge and has won various accolades over the years. The team’s diverse organisational structure facilitates effective communication between domains, ensuring the rover’s overall development. Our academic advisor, Dr. A. Rathinam, is at the top and has been an anchor for the team since its inception. He helped the team in crucial matters like university funding and has provided his support at all needed times.
The Lead and Co-lead, with support from the Technical Director, are in charge of the team. They manage the team’s five domains: Mechanical, Electronics, Life Science, Developers, and Corporate which are led by separate domain leads. The team members majoring in computer sciences, biotechnology, genetic engineering, electronics, mechanical, mechatronics and other engineering backgrounds make the team diversified. Our team has a long history of developing the rover from scratch, and developing a new design once every few years, to continue the legacy of innovation and engineering. The team members come from various domains, each contributing their knowledge to the development of the rover. The mechanical subsystem is developed from scratch, with the electronics custom-made to fulfill the needs of our rover. The developers have created a solid digital backbone to guide the rover, and the life science domain works on creating the science payload, to characterise Mars analogue sites for their habitability. The corporate domain ensures the management of funds and making sure the team meets deadlines, spearheading documentation efforts and working behind the scenes to keep the team running.
