Project RED is a multidisciplinary student-led team based at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE). Founded in 2019 by a group of passionate students from the Department of Sciences and Methods for Engineering (DISMI), the team currently consists of 35 dedicated members from various academic backgrounds, including Mechatronics, Management, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as Earth Sciences.
Our Mission
The team’s primary objective is to design, develop, and build innovative rover prototypes for extraterrestrial exploration. These rovers are specifically engineered to compete in the European Rover Challenge (ERC), one of the most prestigious international space robotics competitions.
Team Structure & Approach
The team is organized into specialized divisions that allow students to apply theoretical knowledge to complex, real-world engineering challenges:
Hardware & Software: Focusing on cutting-edge robotics, autonomous navigation, and mechanical design.
Marketing: Managing the team’s image, communication, and external relations.
Project Management & Operations: This department oversees technical coordination, ensures all deadlines are met, and handles the overall planning of the rover’s development cycles.
Vision & Collaboration
Project RED acts as a bridge between academia and the industrial sector, collaborating with local partners and sponsors to foster technological growth and professional development. We aim to inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists by promoting a culture of aerospace innovation.
