TEAM DESCRIPTION

The NU Aspan Rover Team is a multidisciplinary engineering team from Nazarbayev University that designs and builds advanced Mars-analog rovers to compete in international robotics competitions. The team brings together students from electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, and other disciplines to develop a fully functional planetary rover capable of performing exploration tasks similar to those required in real space missions. Their rover systems typically include mobility platforms, robotic manipulation arms, autonomous navigation, communication systems, and scientific instruments for analyzing simulated Martian environments. Through the project, students gain hands-on experience in robotics, control systems, embedded electronics, artificial intelligence, and systems engineering while collaborating with industry partners and research labs. The team represents Kazakhstan on the global stage at competitions such as the Australian Rover Challenge, where university teams test their rovers in realistic space-mission scenarios including autonomous navigation, equipment servicing, and scientific exploration.
