Impakt - Morasko Science Center
The craters located in the Morasko Meteorite Reserve are the only place in Poland and one of only 200 in the world where direct traces of a cosmic catastrophe have been preserved – an asteroid impact. An iron asteroid with a diameter of several meters entered the atmosphere above Poland, broke into smaller fragments as a result of interaction with the air, and then fell on the Morasko Mountain area around 4.5 thousand years ago, creating a set of impact craters. The largest of them is 100 meters in diameter and about 20 meters deep. The craters in Morasko are an extremely rare case where a visible impact crater is currently located within the administrative boundaries of a large European city. Unfortunately, relatively few people know what a great curiosity the city of Poznań hides.
In order to make better use of this extraordinary place, the newly established Earth and Space Foundation is working to establish a large, interactive Impakt-Morasko Science Center located in the Suchy Las commune, right next to the border with the Morasko reserve. The proposed institution will focus on popularizing knowledge in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, especially in the context of space and nature.
At the Earth and Space Foundation stand, you will be able to touch meteorites, take a VR walk on the surface of Mars, fly over the Moon, and even win your own piece of extraterrestrial matter! And of course, learn many interesting things about our Polish impact crater!
