Taprobane V4.0 is the newest version of Taprobane rover team of SEDS Sri Lanka. We are the leading student body in space technology development in Sri Lanka. As Team Taprobane, we have a rich history in participating space related competitions and punching above our weight despite many challenges we have faced throughout our journey. Some of our achievements are, For the 1st time in Sri Lanka, SEDS Sri Lanka has participated in European Rover Challenge (ERC) 2019 introducing Taprobane 1.0, the very first rover from Sri Lanka. Taprobane 1.0 achieved the 29th place in ERC 2019 solely from technical reports. In 2020, Taprobane 2.0 was able to be the 3rd runner up of the International Mars Hackathon reaching 166.75 points, which was organized by Mars Society South Asia. Taprobane 2.0 was ranked 15th in the International Rover Design Challenge 2020. Taprobane 3.0 gained 465 points and won the 8th place in the rankings of International Rover Design Challenge (IRDC) 2021, organized by the Mars Society South Asia. Taprobane 3.0 achieved the 17th place in ERC 2023 solely from technical reports and was qualified for final round. Remote team of Taprobane_v4.0 is on a mission to continue this legacy and move forward. Description |
Taprobane V3.0 is a team representing the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS) Sri Lanka for the ERC 2022 with over 50 students from 15 Sri Lankan universities. Crossing milestones as Taprobane 1.0, 2.0, and now 3.0, we are the first to build a rover from Sri Lanka. Taprobane 1.0 was the first Sri Lankan Mars rover to compete in the ERC 2019 competition, presenting only technical reports and finishing 29th in the ERC 2019 and 15th internationally in the International Rover Design Challenge 2020 rankings. Its next stage, the Taprobane 2.0, finished in 8th place in the International Rover Challenge (IRC) 2019 rankings with around 465 points. The next milestone in this journey is the Taprobane V3.0 with the aim of participating in the European Rover Challenge – 2022 and achieving success. We hope to be pioneers in Sri Lankan rover technology through this project, and we are looking forward to a remarkable breakthrough in the Sri Lankan space industry. |
